The Forest City Owls are the 2009 Coastal Plain League Petitt Cup Champions. The Coastal Plain League is the nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league, heading into its 14th season. Featuring 15 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia, the CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with wooden bats during the summer months. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Western Carolina vs. Gardner-Webb: February 20th & 21st - 2 p.m.
Gardner-Webb will take on Western Carolina in the first week of the NCAA Division 1 season February 20 & 21 at McNair Field. First pitch is scheduled for 2 pm on Saturday and Sunday, and the gates will open at 1 pm. Tickets are $6 for adults and $5 for youth and seniors, or $3 with the donation of a new blanket to the United Way. Tickets are also included in Owls 2010 season tickets and Bonus Books. Appalachian St. vs. Gardner-Webb (North vs. South Challenge): February 23rd - 3 p.m.

Appalachian St. vs. Marist College (Alumni Night): February 27th - 5 p.m.
The newly formed Foothills Chapter of the Appalachian State Alumni Association will have its first event at McNair Field to watch the Mountaineer baseball team take on Marist College. Game time is 5 pm. The Foothills Chapter covers Rutherford, Cleveland, and Lincoln Counties, and all Appalachian State graduates are invited to attend. Tickets are $10 and include admission to the game and a hot dog or hamburger with potato chips and a soft drink. The Owls will donate $2 from each ticket purchased to the club. Tickets may be purchased from the Owls office or by calling (828) 245-0000.
Appalachian State is participating in the inaugural North South Challenge, along with Gardner-Webb, Niagara, and Marist. Gardner-Webb will play Marist College Friday May 26 at 3 pm followed by Appalachian and Niagara at 7. Saturday, the Appalachian and Marist game will be proceeded by Gardner-Webb and Marist at 1. The event wraps up Sunday with Appalachian taking on Niagara at 1 and Gardner-Webb facing Marist at 5. Tickets to the event are included in all Owls season tickets, and Owls Bonus Book tickets are good for admission. Individual general admission tickets are available for $6 for adults and $5 for youth and seniors under 12.
At the game all Appalachian State alumni will be able to register to receive more information on the Foothills Chapter, who plans to have regular events in the area. Upon registering, each person will be entered into a drawing for Forest City Owls and Appalachian State merchandise and tickets.
“We are very excited to host the Foothills Chapter at the Appalachian State game this year” said Owls general manager James Wolfe. “This marks the second year that we have hosted Appalachian State baseball, and it is a great opportunity for local Mountaineers to come out and support their team.”
