Car Travel: Hot Nights, Cool Rides

August 14-15 – Each year, thousands of car lovers cruise in to fill downtown Forest City with their love of all things chrome and rubber in what is arguably NC’s largest car show and part of Endless Summer in Lake Lure and the Blue Ridge Foothills.
Come Friday at 6 PM to experience a Hot Night with music and dancing at Bennett Classics Car Museum. Then stay for even more Cool Rides as over 500 entries line downtown Forest City, NC from Noon until 10 PM. Forest City has been named one of the nation’s most beautiful downtowns.

Sports Travel: The Olympiad

August 27-30 – Endless Summer in Lake Lure and the Blue Ridge Foothills continues with Western NC’s largest athletic festival (and the one time a year bicycles can ride to Chimney Rock). The Olympiad is for anyone who wants to keep moving – even if it is to music!
Come experience the 5-Mile Dam Run, regionally-ranked triathlon sprint, or the race to the top of Chimney Rock Park. There’s also kids' festival, dragon boat racing, volleyball tournament, ski show, shag dance, fireworks, and so much more.
Just $10 buys a wristband pass to all standard events, and spectators can watch for free. The Olympiad is a non-profit festival and fundraiser for area charities.

Music Travel: Snuffy Jenkins Bluegrass Reunion Announces Dates - Part of the Season at the Foundation

Just announced -- Mark your calendars for November 7th, 2009. Headlined by Doc Watson and David Holt, along with NC Banjo legend Raymond Fairchild, the famous Snuffy Jenkins Festival returns with a day-long reunion. Phil and Gaye Johnson and many other regional and local favorites will also perform during the celebration honoring the innovative banjo player, comedian, and Rutherford County native, Snuffy Jenkins.
Rutherford County Arts Council and Isothermal Community College (ICC) have partnered to bring the festival to the ICC campus. The event is part of the ICC Foundation 2009-2010 season and is sponsored by WNCW. For details and tickets, go to: snuffyjenkinsfestival.com
