Lake Lure & the Blue Ridge Foothills

Photography Contest Deadline Extended to August 31, 2010.

Rutherford County, NC- The Rutherford County Tourism Development Authority is proud to announce their first photography contest designed to celebrate the heritage and visual essence of all that Rutherford County has to offer. The deadline for submission of photos has now been extended to August 31, 2010. Submitted photos can show any natural, historical,cultural subject in the area. Photos must depict Rutherford County from a public vantage point and one that a visitor could access as it appears in real life. Photos with a front porch view or those with a porch in them are encouraged but not required as judges are looking for a diverse collection of entries.

Photographers of all ages with different levels of experience are encouraged to participate in this contest. Participants may submit up to 3 digital photos to the contest’s official Flickr account.

A panel will judge the photos based on originality, artistic composition, photographic technique and technical execution. Finalists will be chosen from all entries and winners will receive assorted prizes for their work. Winners will receive recognition for only one of their submitted photos.

Some prizes include:

• One complimentary night at The Esmeralda Inn • One round of golf and scenic lake cruise from Rumbling Bald Resort • Four-hour fishing trip provided by Lewis No Clark • $25 gift certificate from M Squared Restaurant

Winning and other selected photographs will be used in any Lake Lure & the Blue Ridge Foothills marketing and promotional materials and displayed on Rutherford Tourism’s website. Winning photographs will also be displayed September 14-19 at the Celebrating of the Arts-Visual Arts Guild & Foundation- Guild Gallery.

The contest will commence on July 15, 2010 and end on August 31, 2010.

Minor digital enhancement such as cropping, rotating, red-eye removal and resizing are permitted, however significantly modified or unnatural looking images will be disqualified.

CONTESTANT ELIGIBILITY

The Contest is sponsored by Lake Lure & the Blue Ridge Foothills. The contest is open to any
individual with the exception of judges, TDA employees, their coworkers and households.

Void where prohibited. No purchase or entry fees required. Subject to all federal, state and local
laws. If you are a minor in your jurisdiction of residence (generally, under 18), you are advised to
obtain the permission of your parent/legal guardian before entering contest.


ENTERING THE CONTEST

The contest begins July 15, 2010 and goes until August 15, 2010. To enter, the contestant may submit up to three (3) qualifying photographs taken by him or her,
using a digital or film camera.

Please be sure to add your name and the
location of the photo in the description of each image uploaded. Each entry must include all
information requested. Incomplete, corrupt, or unreadable entries shall be disqualified.

By participating, entrants (if a minor in jurisdiction of residence, his/ her parent or legal
guardian) agree to these Official Rules and that the judges’/sponsor's decisions on all matters
relating to the contest are final and binding.


ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR PHOTOS

Photos must be taken from any location on this map of Rutherford County. Photos must
depict Rutherford County from a public vantage point and one that a visitor could access as it
appears in real life. Photos with a front porch view or those with a porch in them are encouraged
but not required as a judge are looking for a diverse collection of entries. Entry cannot use props
to alter actual appearance of said location. Entries including the identifiable representation of any
person(s) requires the submission of a photo release form. Complete the form and submit form by clicking
the e-mail button.

Any entry with names, logos or other indication that may be owned or controlled by a third party
is ineligible and may be disqualified at the Sponsor's sole discretion. Entries must be solely the
original work of the entrant; do not copy anybody else's work. Entry must be submitted by a
single individual; no joint/group entries. Entries that have been previously published or won a
prize in any other contest are ineligible.

In addition, montages and composite images are ineligible. The Entry must be from a single
capture with any digital or film camera. If cruel, unethical or illegal practices are suspected (as
determined by sponsor and/or its agencies in their sole discretion), the photo will be disqualified.
If the entry contains any material that sponsor and/or its agencies deem, in their sole discretion,
to be morally objectionable, inappropriate or unfit for publication, such entry will be disqualified.


TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR PHOTOS

Note: Image files that do not meet the requirements for recording format, image dimensions or
file naming will be ineligible.

Photos must be captured with either a digital camera or scanned from a film slide, negative or
print and submitted in the baseline JPEG recording format. No photos with file sizes larger than
3.2MB/photo will be accepted. All photos must have a minimum resolution of either a 1600 pixel
width and/or 1200 pixel height (approximately 3 megapixels) in a standard portrait or landscape
aspect ratio. Please provide photos of the highest available resolution and quality. All files
should be named in the following format (with sequential numbering): lastname_firstname1.jpg

While photo editing software can be used, excessive use of such programs (as determined by
sponsor/judges in their sole discretion) is prohibited. Minor digital enhancement is permitted, but
images that have been significantly modified or appear unnatural will be disqualified.


PERMITTED MODIFICATION

- Images may be cropped and rotated as necessary as long as the rectangular format is maintained
and the size is within the specifications above
- Images may be resized as long as the aspect ratio is maintained
- Red-eye removal and spot editing
- Use of filters to sharpen, soften, blur, despeckle, or remove noise
- Use of corrective functions to improve the natural appearance of the image, such as levels,
contrast, brightness, curves, intensity, tone, hue, saturation, lightness, value, color balance, and
tint

 

PRIZES AND NOTIFICATION OF WINNERS

Lake Lure & the Blue Ridge Foothills will award 1st, 2nd, 3rd place and an honorable mention.
The prizes are as follows: First place receives one complimentary night at The Esmeralda Inn, a
one hour pontoon rental with Lake Lure Adventure Company, a gift certificate to Alyssa’s at
Lake Lure Restaurant & Bar, and a $25 gift certificate to M Squared Restaurant. Second place
receives one round of golf and a scenic lake cruise from Rumbling Bald Resort. Third place
receives a four hour fishing trip on Lake Lure provided by Lewis No Clark and a gift certificate
from Point of View Restaurant. Honorable mention will receive a souvenir gift basket for the
Forest City Owls.

Winning and other selected photographs will be featured in promotional material for the
2010-2011 Lake Lure & the Blue Ridge Foothills “Front Porch of the Blue Ridge” marketing
campaign. All winning photos will be displayed, along with as many other entries as space
allows photographs, September 14-19 at the Celebration of the Arts-Visual Arts Guild Gallery.

Winners will be announced during a Celebration of the Arts reception at The Foundation at
Isothermal Community College on September 17, 2010. All contestants are invited to attend the
reception for the announcement of the winners. Once announced, photos will be posted on the
Lake Lure & the Blue Ridge Foothills website.


IMAGE COPYRIGHT, USAGE LICENSE, AND RELEASES

By entering the contest, all entrants grant a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to Lake Lure &
the Blue Ridge Foothills (Rutherford County Tourism Development Authority and its Authorized
Parties, to reproduce, distribute, display and create whole or in part derivative works of the
entries. However, all entrants retain ownership and copyright of their entries and are not
restricted in the future use of their images.

If an entrant's image is not a finalist/winner and the entrant does not want their entries used/
archived/published by Lake Lure & the Blue Ridge Foothills (Rutherford County TDA), they
may elect to "Opt-Out" of this license condition on the official contest form.

Entries including the identifiable representation of any person(s) requires the submission of a
photo release form.

 

LIABILITY DISCLAIMER

The sponsor and its agencies are not responsible for any incorrect form or entry information,
technical malfunctions, failures, omission, interruption, deletion or defect of any telephone
network, computer online systems, computer equipment, servers, service providers or software
including any injury or damage to Contestant's or any other person's computer relating to or
resulting from access to or alteration of entries, and/or inability to access the Lake Lure & the
Blue Ridge Foothills’ website. Entries that are processed late or incorrectly or are incomplete
due to computer or electronic malfunction or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any website,
printing or human or other errors and any entries which are lost, late, incomplete, stolen,
misplaced, misdirected, mutilated are illegible. Proof of online submission is not considered
proof of delivery or receipt.

If, in Sponsor's exclusive judgment, the implementation of this contest becomes compromised in
any way including but not limited to force major (e.g., strike, riot, civil unrest, natural cataclysm
or otherwise) or technological/electronic or other malfunction/failure/error, sponsor reserves the
right to withdraw the contest, cancel the affected method(s) of entry/winner determination, to
void any entries submitted fraudulently and any entries that were affected by the contest being so
compromised and/or to select winners in a manner determined by sponsor in its sole discretion to
be fair, appropriate and consistent with the spirit of these official rules. Notice of such action by
sponsor will be posted on the Rutherford Tourism Development Authority website.
